On Nov. 2, 2009, five people undertook to disarm the Trident II missiles at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor, as an outcry against the illegality and immorality of such weapons. "We are responsible... for this threat of first-strike terrorism hanging over the community of nations, rich and poor... Such planning, preparation, and deployment is a blasphemy against the Creator of life, imaged in each human being."

An gathering offering the public an opportunity to hear from and meet with members of the Journey of Repentance (that visited Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 2009) and the November 2nd Disarm Now Plowshares action. An ecumenical service, followed by presentations, discussion and music rounded out an evening of ideas and reflections about nuclear weapons, and particularly the ones in Puget Sound. Lynne Greenwald, of Ground Zero Center for Nonviolent Action, appeared in U. S. District Court in Tacoma, WA, Dec. 9, for a Detention Hearing. Greenwald was charged with trespassing for blocking the entry to the Kitsap Trident Naval Base while carrying the banner “Abolish Nuclear Weapons: Resist Trident” as part of Ground Zero’s Aug 10th recognition of the 64th Anniversary of the U.S. Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
